Journey Overview

Join East Central College alumni and friends on this joyful long weekend journey to Chicago that is sure to put you in the holiday spirit.

This joyful long weekend journey to Chicago is sure to put you in the spirit of the holidays. Among the highlights of our journey will be the wonderful Chicago Christkindlmarket offering an experience comparable to any you will find in Europe. We will enjoy dinner at the historic Berghoff restaurant, a Broadway show at an historic theater, and experience the Museum of Science and Industry. Even our journey to Chicago promises to be fun-filled. We will depart from the East Central College Campus and stop for lunch prepared by Hell’s Kitchen winner and East Central College alumnus, Trenton Garvey, before we travel together by train to Chicago. In Chicago, we will stay at the beautiful and historic Palmer House Hilton.

Your Host for Our Journey

Our host for the Falcon Foundation Foray will be the East Central College Foundation. We believe this foray into alumni travel at East Central College will contribute to the growth and development of the college by providing a wonderful opportunity to network through this delightful travel experience.

As the only institution of higher education based in Franklin County, East Central College serves thousands of students annually. In fact, we educate the workforce in our area, which empowers East Central College to create an ongoing positive impact in our community. By strengthening the relationships among those who will join us on this journey by deepening our connection with alumni, we believe the Falcon Foundation Foray offers great potential to advance our continued work in changing lives through education.

The ECC Foundation helps strengthen our communities for all of us and enhances the lives of our students forever. We hope you will join us on this festive long weekend journey to Chicago. Your life is sure to be enriched by this travel experience through the fun and fellowship we are sure to enjoy on this journey together.

Purpose

We believe the gift of an education is a gift that lasts a lifetime. Our Falcon Foundation Foray will offer a wonderful opportunity for alumni and friends to enjoy fun and fellowship through great entertainment, cool dining experiences, and enjoyment of one of the best Christmas markets in the United States all while staying at a beautiful, historic hotel, The Palmer House. The purpose of our travel experience together promises to be a celebration of the bright future we offer by changing lives through education.

The activities on our itinerary have been chosen, in large part and of course, because we believe these experiences will offer a great opportunity for fun and fellowship. We also chose activities on our itinerary that reflect the achievements of our alumni through the educational opportunities we offer at East Central College. For instance, we will begin our journey dining at the Blue Duck restaurant in St. Louis where ECC alumnus, Chef Trenton Garvey, applies his culinary skills.

While time will not permit engaging in all of the activities in which we have educated so many for future success, we will visit the Museum of Science and Industry to help us contemplate the contributions of our alumni to business, science, and industry. Here at ECC, we love the performing arts. Our enjoyment of a Broadway quality theater experience, in addition to being a great entertainment experience, offers us the opportunity to reflect on all that the performing arts means to so many at ECC. Dinner at the Berghoff and our experience of the Christmas market will allow us to remember and celebrate the German heritage of so many in our community. We will also look forward to hearing alumni reflect on their own success as a way of reminding us, and motivating us, to continue our important work for our community and beyond.

We hear many people say, “I would not be where I am today if it had not been for ECC.” Our Falcon Foundation Foray will be a celebration of education in the lives we have changed and the lives we look forward to changing at East Central College.

Our Philosophy

We hope you will measure the quality of your journey not by the quantity of sights you see, but by the invaluable experiences you absorb.

Balance of stimulating experience, serious reflection
…and just plain fun.

One word describes our intention for your journey: balance. We believe each place we visit should relate to whole story, the arc of a narrative. We believe in creating journeys formed and shaped as narratives; journeys that are serious, purposeful, and fulfilling with time to reflect with fellow travelers or alone while providing opportunity for experiences that are just plain fun.

Expert interaction and rich personal encounters

Rather than a trip led by a tour guide trained to disseminate information from a script, we endeavor to seek experts to lead you on a journey who are available as a resource for as much depth as you desire or to leave you to your own reflection.

 One beautiful base location

Too often, group travel can leave you feeling like you are part of a herd of a large group of strangers hustled from sight to sight, packing, and unpacking every day of your trip. With us you will stay in one beautiful location that serves as a base for our excursions. Changing hotels as few times as possible during a journey allows greater opportunity to experience people and culture.

Meticulously planned; yet flexible journey

How does a trip become a journey? Carefully selected excursions that form a narrative, staying in one beautiful base location, with time and flexibility for reflection, and activities that are just plain fun.

Cuisine as a delectable complement to culture and conversation

Cuisine, and the wonderful dining experiences we share in an eclectic array of venues, provide a delectable complement to your rich encounters with the culture and the delightful conversation you enjoy with fellow travelers.
