June in Egypt is hot, dry, and sunny with temperatures from 90 – 105 F. In Egypt, a Muslim country, all people dress modestly (covered shoulders and knees) and not too casually (NO tees and shorts in cities). Sturdy walking shoes are a must for city cobblestones and desert environments. Wear loose, light weight, and breathable clothing in cotton or linen. Bring a light jacket for cooler nights, and your swimsuit to enjoy the pools at hotel and on ship. Women will need long-sleeved blouses and head-covering scarves to enter mosques and churches. Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat will be essential for everyone.
Where possible, we stay in beautiful base locations for as long as possible on a journey to actively avoid the need to pack and unpack every morning and evening. We will stay in one hotel in Cairo, then our staterooms for three nights, then back to our original hotel. The airlines will allow one carry on suitcase, one personal item (purse or backpack), and one checked piece of luggage. To pack well benefits fellow travelers and requires a bit of planning and organization, like making a list and using packing cubes.
Traveling to a new time zone, in addition to sitting for a very long period, can produce a sense of being tired over several days (aka jet lag) to the point of negatively impacting your travel experience. There are some steps you can take to minimize jet lag like sleeping as much as possible on your flight to Egypt, getting up and moving a bit, avoiding caffeine, and setting your watches and phones to your new time zone when you board your flight. Try to eat and sleep on the new time. Staying awake on your flight home to helps readjust to home time.
